The first baby for the Northwest will call Kispiox home, with Northern Health relaying word of the first borns for the Northern health region over the weekend.
Royelle Williams and Shane Skulsh of Kispiox are the proud parents of the as of yet unnamed baby boy, born at 2:18 in the afternoon on New Years Day at Wrinch Memorial hospital in Hazelton.
“Royelle is Gitxsan and was born here on Gitxsan territory, so it was important to her that her baby was also born in her community,. She worked very hard for a very long time to deliver this babe and I’m so proud of her! Her mom, Jane Williams, was also at the birth; she delivered Royelle here at Wrinch memorial hospital too, and Shane, the father, was also born at Wrinch,” said midwife Hana Lang.
The newest resident for Kispiox is the third generation of his family to be born at Wrinch Memorial in Hazelton.
As of yet, there has been no word from Prince Rupert Regional Hospital as to whether the first born for the North Coast has made his or her debut.
The first baby for the entire Northern Health Authority region was delivered at Prince George’s University Hospital at 4:11 AM on New Years Day.
