VIDEO: Travel Back In Time To A Smithers Parade In The 1950s

Back then Main Street was still a dirt road.

It’s hard to believe now, but 65 years ago downtown Smithers still had dirt roads.

That’s one of many fascinating things you notice watching vintage footage of the Skeena region recently posted to YouTube by “CanadaMotorSports/Reel Life.”

The video begins with farmers in Telkwa during a time when “food production was increasingly becoming mechanized.” But the real highlight begins around the 3:30 mark where you can travel back in time to a Smithers parade in 1955.

Check out the hand drawn float signs advertising “Hoskins Garage–Where Service Is a Pleasure” and “Prosperity Through Legumes and Livestock.”
