It’s definitely one of the biggest COVID outbreaks in the Skeena region. As of this week, 56 employees at LNG Canada in Kitimat have tested positive, a growth of 15 cases over the past two or so weeks.
“Six of these cases remain active (50 are considered recovered). There are no individuals self-isolation at the project site related to this outbreak; six individuals are self-isolating off site/in their home communities,” reads a recent information bulletin from Northern Health.
The outbreak was first declared on November 19. At that time just 14 employees had tested positive. But that’s quadrupled since then.
“Northern Health, LNG Canada, and JGC Fluor continue to work closely together to ensure enhanced control measures are followed, to protect the health of all staff,” the bulletin says.
“On-site screening of employees, contact management and tracing are continuing, and there continue to be no public exposures in Kitimat and the surrounding area at this time.”
