Spring is finally on the way and the BC Conservation Officer Service and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) have a message for you.

“We’re here to remind you that your angling license is about to expire at the end of the month and need to get a new one in April,” officers Marc Plamondon and Bijan Sanatz-Asgari explain in a new video

They also point out that there have been updates to the Freshwater Fishing Regulations Synopsis. “Have a read of that before you head to your local fishing spot just in case anything has changed,” Plamondon says.

Your tidal water licence is also expiring and should be renewed. “If you’re planning on keeping any salmon, title or non-title you’ll have to have your respective stamp,” Sanatz-Asgari says.

If an officer asks to see your license you can show them a digital copy on your phone. But you’ll need a physical copy if you plan on keeping fish.

“Other than that, have fun out there,” Plamondon says.
