Humans of Terrace

This is Leticia.
Leticia founded the Terrace Refillery in November of 2019 and has not looked back since. She has long held a passion for sustainability and in early 2019, started Plastic Free Terrace, a non-profit dedicated to educating the community on single-use plastic.
Plastic Free Terrace has had many wins in their short history, including supporting the transition for various restaurants in Terrace to compostable and recyclable take out containers. As a mother of three and a Registered Nurse, Leticia understands the importance of education instead of shaming. “I am not perfect, and no one is perfect” is a motto she uses to help people remember that every small change you make matters.
As someone who walks the walk with the products she sells, Leticia understands the importance of transparency in this field. In her own words: “I will not sell anything that I wouldn’t put on my own body or on my kids”, and this sentiment is obvious when perusing the products in her store. Many of the items for sale are handmade by mothers and sisters, and always 100% Canadian (95% of which are from right here in BC).
As the COVID-19 pandemic rolled in, Leticia switched her store to a walk-up window to continue serving her 200 or so regular customers. She noticed that during this time people had a heightened sense of awareness around single-use plastic with the abundance of face masks and plastic gloves.
As someone who enjoys connecting with others, Leticia was happy to have these conversations with the folks who popped by the store window. Caring and compassionate, Leticia hopes to continue to bring her energy to educating the community and maybe even grow into store front space in the next few years.
