As of Monday morning, smoke continued to waft over the east side of the city and crews from Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue were still on the scene of a commercial/industrial fire on Saskatoon Avenue. They arrived after an early morning call for response from the Yellowhead Centre location of Love Marine Electric.
The fire call came in during the early morning hours of Monday morning, with crews responding just after 3:30am to the fully involved fire on Saskatoon, the situation made further challenging by strong winds in excess of 40 kilometres an hour which accompanied the current Pacific front over the city.
The Prince Rupert Fire Crews attacked the fire from two locations, the street level at Saskatoon and above from an area adjacent to Rainbo Chrysler Dodge. Fire Crews were able to contain the fire to just the immediate Love electric structure.
The impact of the fire, mainly in the way of smoke and the smell of a range of materials, is also being felt by nearby residential residents, both at the Oasis condo and apartment buildings, as well as single family homes in the Silversides area of the city.
Firefighters were still pouring water onto the scene as of 8am. Once extinguished, an investigation will then get underway to determine the cause of the overnight fire.
