If you bought Daily Shield hand sanitizer recently at Dollarama or anywhere else across the Skeena recently it’s probably not a good idea to use.
Health Canada today announced a nationwide recall of the product, as well as sanitizers with the Bio Life brand name. The reason? “It may pose serious health risks, including dermatitis, eye irritation and can be deadly if ingested,” CTV reports.
That’s because the products contain methanol, which can be toxic to humans. The Daily Shield and Bio Life sanitizers also have relatively low levels of ethanol, Health Canada testing revealed, meaning that they’re not likely to be effective in killing germs and bacteria.
“As a result, Health Canada directed the company to stop all licensable activities,” reads an official recall notice.
Already purchased some of this faulty sanitizer? Health Canada recommends you “stop using it immediately,” adding, “If swallowed, call a poison control centre or seek medical help immediately. Report any adverse health event or product complaint to Health Canada.” Here is a link to the official Health Canada product complaint form.
