VIDEO: Watch Humpback Whales ‘Bubble Netting’ Near Prince Rupert

The 30 tonne mammals use a wall of bubbles to round up their prey.

Humpback whales weigh about 30,000 kilos, and live mostly off a diet of tiny sea creatures such as krill, plankton, or herring. Ever wonder how such massive beasts manage to survive off such tiny prey?

These highly intelligent mammals use some rather unique techniques to round up their meals. Check out this recent video of humpback whales near Prince Rupert doing something called “bubble netting”, which is when they swim towards the surface of the water blowing a “net” of bubbles that helps trap fish. Hey, don’t knock it unless you’ve tried it!
